Where to eat

As with most of the smaller ski stations in Bulgaria, slope side dining is far from a la carte at Kulinoto and Razlog just down the road offers little more than traditional Bulgarian dishes and at best a pizza for nourishment off the hill.

If you are looking for slightly more than excellent local dishes, head to Bansko where you will find everything else although be prepared to pay up to 50% more than you would in Razlog.

This does not make Bansko expensive though, just noticeably more "average" in value than Razlog.

Mehana Tanne

Mehana Tanne... because you are worth it!

Every year, we have a great deal of trouble selecting the very best traditional Bulgarian restaurants in Bansko. This is mainly due to the fact that we have counted nearly 300 variations on the typical Bulgarian restaurant in resort and they vary from absolutely superb to the odd one or two that you really wouldn’t let your dog dine in!

Mehana Tanne is certainly one of the best and has been for some years!

Track Bar

Stay off the tracks!

The Track Bar is in it's second year in Bansko and offers excellent (and good value) food, drinks, cocktails and a party that's hard to beat!

Mehana Banski Han

Part of the problem with writing guides to Bulgaria like ours is we are always getting into arguments about which are the best places to eat in resorts like Bansko.

Banski Han is no exception and after eating here you may agree with a lot of the locals who say this is one of the best restaurants in Bansko.

Matsurev Han Inn

Historic listed building offers value and tradition!

Matsurev Han Inn is located just off Pirin Street in Bansko as you walk away from the mountain to the centre of the old town.

Not only does Matsurev Han offer excellent food but also excellent value accommodation in the old house or the newly renovated apartments next door.

Dedo Pene Inn

The oldest accommodation and dining option in Bansko

The Dedo Pene Inn in the very centre of the old town offers fabulous authentic accommodation and food in the oldest Mehana in the area!

Excellent Value for food and accommodation makes Dedo Pene a must visit!

La Skara Grill Restaurant

La Skara is another new addition to the fine dining options in Bansko, but this restaurant has a twist! You cook most of the food yourself!

Chervometo

Chevermeto is about as traditional Bulgarian as you can get when it comes to food in Bansko. Located in the heart of the old town just off the main square, very close to the church, you will usually smell Chevermeto before you see it because of the suckling pig or lamb that is often cooking on the open BBQ spit in front of the restaurant. This is the reason why Chevermeto always tends to be full of “in-the-know” locals.

Mehana Chardaka

Mehana Chardaka is another great one right in the heart of the old town of Bansko.

The food is cooked right in front of you and you may find yourself getting lost in the maze of rooms of the old house that make up this fine tavern.

Mehana Bardareva

This traditional, cozy tavern complete with open fire place is a fantastic restaurant for those with big appetites!

The Crown

Just around the corner from the Fortuna Complex is The Crown Pub.

Huge (and excellent) menu which is tailored towards family dining but beware!

It can get very lively here after dark!

The London Pub

The London Pub (Located in the Glazne Quarter) has a motto, “Walk in and dance out” and based on experience there has never been a motto more true!

Harry's Bar (Kandahar Complex)

If you follow the road to the right of The Friendly (as you look at it) up the hill and turn left when you get to the Emerald Resort, a few meters on you come to Harry’s Bar in the Kandahar Complex.

The Irish Pub

The Irish Bar (run by Gemma and Rob from Bristol) offer FINE range of "proper homemade fare. It's probably the most popular hangout for the resident expats who flock here for the bangers and mash and homemade burgers.

The Lions Pub

Traditional English/Irish fare can be found in many places but one of the most notable is the British Lions Pub at the top of Pirin Street.

JJ Murphy's

In Sofia, JJ Murphy’s Irish Pub is an institution amongst the locals and widely regarded as a place where good friends meet. This is the second season that Murphy’s has been in Bansko and not only do you get the fantastic hospitality and excellent food you would expect in any self respecting Irish pub, but they also have their own apartments above the pub which make dealing with all the après ski so much easier!
